From the banks of the Ille to the green spaces 🌳

After exploring the city center, head to the banks of theIlle for a more peaceful and immersive stroll. Here, the urban landscape gives way to vast green spaces. Follow the quays, take time to watch the ducks gliding on the water, and why not organize an impromptu picnic with family or friends? Continue along the Canal d'Ille-et-Rance. There are several perfect spots to take a break, breathe in the fresh air and admire the surrounding nature.

The Ille-et-Rance Canal: a journey from Rennes to Saint-Malo 🚴‍♂️

The Canal d'Ille-et-Rance is a must for all cycling enthusiasts. This 85 km itinerary links Rennes to the corsair town of Saint-Malo, following theIlle and Rance rivers. Depart from the Mail François Mitterrand in Rennes, the ideal starting point for this beautiful escapade. Pedaling along safe cycle paths, you'll pass through a variety of landscapes, from picturesque locks to small villages like Betton and Saint-Grégoire, where you'll find rest areas perfect for a picnic.

Further afield, don't miss the charming town of Hédé-Bazouges and its eleven locks in a row, veritable masterpieces of engineering. For a cultural break, stop off at one of the local gîtes or small hotels before setting off again. Continue on to Dinan and end your journey in Saint-Malo, where the sea air revitalizes you as soon as you set off along the Emerald Coast.

Head for Mont-Saint-Michel: for the more daring 🚴‍♂️

For the more daring, why not extend the adventure to Mont-Saint-Michel? This almost 3-day round trip route is punctuated by breathtaking viewpoints. Make sure you're well equipped (waterproof pannier, anti-theft device, etc.), as some of the paths are more demanding. But what a reward to see the majestic abbey looming on the horizon after hours of pedaling! This tour is ideal for those who want to combine adventure with a change of scenery.

The banks of the Vilaine: a zen and rejuvenating itinerary 🌊

If you prefer a shorter stroll, follow the banks of the Vilaine. The route starts at the Parc des Gayeulles, Rennes' green lung, and follows the river for around 30 km. The scenery is varied, alternating between shady paths and lush green meadows. Stop off at the Maison de la Vilaine to learn more about this unique ecosystem. You can even continue on to Redon to explore the local heritage, before returning leisurely to Rennes.

The Rennes-Dinan loop: between nature and history 🏰

For a more heritage-oriented trip, try the Rennes-Dinan loop, a 90 km route through the Breton countryside. Following the RiverIlle, you'll pass through typical villages before arriving in Dinan, famous for its medieval architecture. Stroll through its cobbled streets, visit the Château de Dinan and relax on the banks of the Rance before heading back to Rennes. This route is perfect for those who want to combine sport, nature and culture for a weekend.
